THE KANAKUK EXPERIENCE

When school gets out in May each year, where do you go? This past summer (2021) my home was not on the north side of Stillwater, Oklahoma like it always has been. My home was in little ole Lampe, Missouri, at a Christian sports camp called Kanakuk.
When I was young, I was a camper at Kanakuk for eight years and it was always my favorite place and my second home, but for only two weeks out of the year. Last summer I dedicated my time and service to the Kanakuk kitchen staff for six weeks and it changed my life for the better. Never in my life did I expect that working behind the scenes at a massive church camp could be so challenging yet so rewarding at the same time.
Throughout my six weeks at Kanakuk, I experienced many so emotions, everything from overwhelming doubt to extreme joy. I had the opportunity to work on myself and at the same time, I got to watch the Lord change the lives of so many people around me. It truly was the best summer of my life.
If you get the opportunity to work at a church, do it. You might not get the money that you would if you worked at home for the summer, but you would get the experience of a lifetime. Camp would challenge you in ways you never thought you needed, and you will learn about everything you have been searching for. Life is about experiences not about tangible things like money, or clothes, or grades. Make the memories you will remember for the rest of your life now, so you don't feel like you missed out later.
